The four apps make money in different ways. Vinted and eBay UK charge the buyer rather than the seller. Depop charges a payment processing fee. eBay US and Poshmark take a commission. That changes how you should price, not just what you keep. This guide puts the numbers side by side, then looks at each platform and ends with a plain recommendation. For a wider ranking that includes Mercari, see the best app to sell clothes.

Seller fees are what comes out of your payout. Buyer fees are added at checkout and don’t reduce what you receive, but buyers see them in the total, so they affect what price feels fair.

How much does each app take from a sale?

On the same $50 item, the gap between the cheapest and most expensive option is $10, or 20% of the sale. In the UK the gap almost disappears, because both Vinted and eBay are free for private sellers and Depop only charges processing.

Vinted: zero seller fees, built for everyday fashion

Vinted charges sellers nothing on a normal sale: no listing fee, no commission and no processing deduction. Buyers pay a Vinted fee at checkout instead. Vinted’s US and French price lists describe it as typically 5% plus a fixed $0.70 or €0.70. Vinted UK gives a range of roughly 3–8% plus £0.30–£0.80, depending on the item, order value and whether it’s a bundle. The optional costs are paid visibility such as Bumps.

Vinted operates in 26 markets, including most of Europe, the UK, the US and, since July 2026, Australia. Shipping is simple: the buyer pays, you print a prepaid label and drop the parcel off within 5 days. The order completes when the buyer confirms or automatically 2 days after delivery, the money reaches your balance within 2 days, and a bank withdrawal can take up to 5 business days.

  • Sells best: high-street and sportswear brands, kids’ clothes, everyday basics and wardrobe clearouts.
  • Watch out for: buyers expect fair prices and make offers. Because they pay a fee on top, the total they see is higher than your price.

Depop: processing fees only, built for style-led pieces

Depop removed its selling fee for UK sellers in March 2024 and for US sellers on 18 July 2024, and sellers in Australia also pay no selling fee. What remains is payment processing through Depop Payments: 2.9% + £0.30 in the UK and 3.3% + $0.45 in the US, charged on the item price plus shipping and any tax. Sellers elsewhere still pay a 10% selling fee. Boosted listings are optional and cost 12% of the sale in the UK and US for listings boosted from 23 March 2026, charged only when a boosted item sells.

Depop has been owned by eBay since 30 July 2026, but still runs as its own app. Its audience is young and browses by look, which is why vintage, Y2K, streetwear and one-off pieces do well and why styled, on-body photos matter more here than anywhere else. You can ship with a Depop label, which is deducted from your payout, or arrange your own postage.

  • Sells best: vintage, Y2K, streetwear, reworked and one-off pieces.
  • Watch out for: processing is charged on shipping too, and a boosted sale costs 12%.

eBay: free for UK private sellers, a commission in the US

eBay’s fees depend on where you sell. On eBay UK, private sellers pay no final value fee and no regulatory operating fee in any category except motors, and get 300 free listings a month (35p each after that). Buyers pay a Buyer Protection fee on private-seller items: £0.10 plus 7% of the price up to £20, 4% from £20 to £300 and 2% from £300 to £4,000. On a £50 item that is £2.70.

On eBay.com, most clothing falls under the standard rate of 13.6% of the total sale (including shipping and tax) plus a $0.40 per-order fee on orders over $10. Athletic shoes of $150 or more are charged 8% with no per-order fee. eBay usually makes funds available 1–2 days after payment, pays out daily by default, and bank transfers take 1–3 business days.

  • Sells best: designer pieces, trainers, rare vintage, collectables and anything outside fashion.
  • Watch out for: more listing work. Buyers search by brand, size and specifics, so complete item specifics and measurements matter.

Poshmark: the highest fee, a loyal US audience

Poshmark charges a flat $2.95 on sales under $15 and 20% on sales of $15 or more. There are no listing fees or monthly costs. It operates in the US and Canada and describes its community as 80+ million users. Every sale ships with a prepaid, pre-addressed USPS label, and the buyer pays a flat shipping rate unless you offer a discount.

Earnings are released when the buyer accepts the order, or automatically 3 days after delivery if they don’t raise a problem. Poshmark is also social. Sharing your closet and other sellers’ listings keeps you visible, so expect some daily effort.

  • Sells best: US mall brands, activewear, mid-range labels.
  • Watch out for: the 20% cut and the $2.95 minimum make cheap items expensive to sell. On a $10 sale the fee is 29.5%.

Which should you use?

Start with what you sell and where you live. Fees matter, but listing on the app where your kind of clothes already sell matters more.

Everyday brands, kids’ clothes, clearouts

→ Vinted

No seller fees, buyer-paid prepaid labels and the biggest European audience for high-street fashion. The easiest place to start.

Vintage, Y2K, streetwear

→ Depop

A young, style-led audience that browses by look. Processing fees only in the UK and US, but your photos have to do the selling.

Designer, trainers, rare pieces

→ eBay

Search-driven buyers, the widest reach and, in the UK, no seller fees for private sellers. Precise titles and item specifics win here.

US mall brands and activewear

→ Poshmark

A US and Canada audience that pays for recognisable labels. The 20% fee is the highest of the four, so price accordingly.

You sell in the UK

→ Vinted + eBay

Both are free for private sellers. List everyday pieces on Vinted and higher-value or collectable items on eBay.

You sell in the US

→ Vinted + Depop

The two lowest-fee options. Add Poshmark only for brands its audience actively searches for.

Does the same photo work on every app?

Yes. All four show your first photo as a thumbnail in a grid, and buyers decide from that image. A clear photo with the whole garment visible works everywhere. An on-model photo helps most on Depop and Vinted, where buyers want to see fit, and a clean background suits eBay’s search results. Vintefy turns one phone photo into either in about 30 seconds: Clone mode puts the garment on a model and Studio mode puts it on a clean background.
